Hello, welcome to the Science-Based Practice website, a place that, as the name suggests, discusses not only clinical epidemiology, but also the application of research results focused on the area of physical therapy and the analysis of human movement. As Bonorino, a researcher from Rio Grande do Sul, states: “Science happens when someone admits: I don’t know; but I want to find out”.

We´ll also discuss and generate common sense definitions of what evidence-based practice is, which in a way, takes us back to the forensic evidence of a certain clinical research result and which dates back to antiquity with Plato (Epistemology). It´s also remembered as the “rebellion” of Canadian doctors who invented the term to provoke their peers who made decisions based on their own experiences and, to a certain extent, left aside the current literature on clinical epidemiology or a specific area.

We´re not against the movement, since we are part of it, I just invite you to reflect on why physical therapists and other health professionals use terms that do not belong to us or that indicate information that contradicts what is suggested to scientists in the health field. A good, adapted definition, taken from Gueddes in 1997, is: “Set of combined strategies resulting from advances in information technology and clinical epidemiology, with the aim of ensuring that individual patient care is based on the most up-to-date literature, resulting in the best possible outcome measure”.

In this portal, which is constantly being reviewed and updated, you´ll also find Clinical Trials (evaluated and discussed), Systematic Reviews, information about Aquatic Physical Therapy, herein denominated Aquatic Exercise Science, topics about Statistical Analysis, and the Data and Wisdom School, with in-person and online courses provided by top-notch professionals, as well as information from the Research Group and videos from the YouTube Channel.

Less Euphemism, more Epistemic Vigilance! The rest is ephemeral.
